Small Home Cooling with Ductless Air Conditioning

Why a mini-split system is a great option for your smaller space

ductless air conditioning Finding the right air conditioning system for a home is not a one size fits all process. In fact, when selecting an AC system it is important to take the actual size and square footage of your house into account, especially here in Southeastern Massachusetts where the summers can get quite warm. A ductless air conditioning happens to be a great option for homes that are on the smaller size!

How opting for ductless AC can be beneficial

Sometimes adding and using a central air conditioning system to a house is just not necessary. This type of AC may just not be what you need to actually stay cool and comfortable once the warm weather hits. On top of that, you may find that the cost of central air conditioning is simply not worth it.

For small homes, ductless air conditioning (otherwise known as a mini-split system) may be your best option. Certainly compared to window air conditioner units, ductless AC units get you the best value and comfort level for your money. They are incredibly efficient and use fewer resources to operate, which is reflected on any homeowner’s utility bills.

Additionally, ductless AC systems:

  • Are easy to install and can typically be added to a home within a day.
  • Use less electricity than both central air conditioners and window units, which makes them more environmentally friendly than their counterparts.
  • Decrease the chances of mold and other microorganisms growing in your home (this can happen with ductwork air conditioning systems).

While ductless AC units are a great small home cooling solution, they are also great options for other spaces as well. Consider ductless air conditioning for:

  • Homes that don’t have built in ductwork: Adding ductless air conditioning to a home is often cheaper than adding ductwork to a home.
  • A new addition in your house: If your home has ductwork in your main living area that isn’t shared with any additions, added-on garages, workrooms or sunrooms, ductless AC can certainly be used to cool those specific areas.
  • Rooms that always stay hot: If you have a room in your home that doesn’t seem to get cool no matter how low you set your central air thermostat, adding ductless air conditioning can help make that room comfortable without increasing costs astronomically.
  • People who prefer different temperatures: If the people who live in your home can’t agree on a common temperature to set your central AC to, ductless air conditioning can create independent temperature zones within different rooms. This helps keep everyone happy and comfortable!
  • Homes that have empty rooms: If many of the rooms in your house are empty for most of the day, consider a ductless air conditioning system. This will let you control where your cool air goes as opposed to closing vents in certain rooms, which creates pressure imbalance and can lead to mold.
