Bioheat. What’s it all about?
The common belief is that heating oil is not environmentally friendly. But thanks to advancements in recent years, heating oil is a much “cleaner” product than in the past.
One of the biggest transitions in heating oil in recent years has been the move toward ultra-low sulfur heating oil. Bioheat is a blend of ultra-low sulfur heating oil and renewable materials like vegetable oils that integrates seamlessly with all heating oil systems. In short, no changes to your boiler or furnace are necessary.
W.H. Riley & Son, which has been helping Southeastern Massachusetts homeowners heat their homes for nearly 150 years, uses only Bioheat for its oil customers. And that’s good for your heating system, your home – and your wallet.
Here’s how Bioheat helps you:
- A buildup of sulfur in a boiler or furnace can lead to system maintenance issues. The drastic reduction of sulfur in Bioheat means that there will be far fewer system issues, which will lead to lower maintenance costs for W.H. Riley customers.
- Because there is virtually no sulfur in the heating system thanks to Bioheat, your oil heating system can burn the fuel more efficiently, leading to lower heating bills.
- Bioheat works exceptionally well with the new generation of compact, super-efficient boilers and furnaces that drastically increase fuel efficiency and reduce consumption.
The National Oilheat Research Alliance says the overall goal is to transition to even higher levels of Bioheat, which will further reduce the carbon footprint and actually turn heating oil into a carbon-neutral energy source.
